#1/2011 ArtJournal Quilt "Highly Prized"

Looks like I am kicking off the new "Journal Quilt" challenge. The first of the theme topics as I understood it, is "Highly Prized"... My daughter in law is pregnant with twins (just) and we are all holding our breath in hopes these babies thrive and grow. It is a high risk and highly prized pregnancy!

I used my new stash of silk neckties to make the silhouette of the pregnant woman and layered her over Jacquard silk paper on which I printed a photo of a prize ribbon from one of the shows I entered last year. The white background is some starched white linen I bought at the thrift store. I used gold Sulky glittery thread to outline it all and to free motion top sew swirls throughout for a heavily textured background. I used matching silk necktie for the binding around the quilt. Obviously there is a pun intended in "The Best of Show" words.
