Have you met Liz Scott? {and a give-away}

Back in the fall I fell in love with this darling line of fabric. Sugar Pop! by Liz Scott for Moda fabrics. I had to use it. I picked up a Jelly Roll and went to work. Kathleen and I came up with our pattern Flower Pops featuring Sugar Pop! I love it.
  It's actually one of my best selling patterns too!

A few weeks ago Liz contacted me, she is so sweet. While chatting with Liz via email I came up with a few questions that I thought would be fun for all of you to know about Liz.

How did you get into designing fabric?
I am a graphic designer by trade, but have always loved fabric and textile design. I was working at a job in a corporate setting and everyday I would sit in my cubicle and dream about fabric, sewing and starting a family. Around that same time, I learned about Spoonflower.coma website which allows me to upload my designs that are then printed on fabric and sent back to me. I fell in love! I designed pattern after pattern and began to sell my fabrics in my Etsy shop. I received a very positive response and lots of inquiries into wholesale orders. Because the cost of doing large runs of fabric at Spoonflower is high, I began to seek out other ways to get my designs out there to the masses. I began by asking the advice of those who were doing it already—the fabric designers that I admired most. I received such generous, and valuable feedback from many of the top designers out there. The enthusiasm and support was truly humbling. The folks in the fabric business are so wonderful and warm, I knew that I was on the right track. So I contacted the fabric manufacturers where I thought my style would fit best and asked about the artwork submission process. I submitted my artwork to several companies and Moda picked up Sugar Pop! Right around that same time I found out I was pregnant! Now Sugar Pop! is in stores and my seven month old daughter, Rylie, is cutting teeth and learning to crawl.

What inspired your first line Sugar Pop!?
My sweet tooth! I love all things bold and graphic, but I'm also a nature lover, so this line features whimsical nature motifs with a few dots and other geos thrown in for good measure. The color palette is purely based on candy-coated chocolate. I love those bright and clear colors from the candy store or the ice cream parlor and who doesn't love chocolate brown? I think it works so well to mellow the giddy brights in this collection!

Do you have more lines in the works?
Why yes I do and I am so excited! Becoming a new parent has kept me quite busy this last year, but I have found time to design a new collection that will be announced this summer and available in stores in December. I know that is a while to wait, but I can tell you that is vintage modern and is inspired by all the comforts of my home. I know,.. so secretive. I hope to share sneak peeks on my blog in the coming months.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not designing?
Being outside, swinging in the hammock with Rylie, dreaming about what I am going to design next, sewing, knitting, neighborhood walks with my family, hiking, reading to Rylie, travel by train, collecting vintage fabric and linens. troving flea markets and thrift stores for treasure.

Thanks so much Liz! It was so much fun to learn so much about you. I can't wait to see & get my hands on your next line!
