It's for the Birds {McCalls Quilting Magazine}

The process of the 2010 McCalls Quilt Design Star Challenge has come to the end. One of the prizes for winning the challenge was to have Kathleens' quilt pattern published in McCalls Quilting magazine.

Yesterday we received our copy and let me tell you, those ladies at McCalls did a fabulous job of putting the pattern together.

First, they have a two page article about all of the finalists in the 2010 design star challenge, and their amazing quilts. 

Then on the next page they have Kathleens' quilt & pattern, "It's for the Birds"

The pattern is written very nicely and has so very detailed instructions.

I just have to tell you all one last time, thank you to everyone who supported and voted for my mom, Kathleen in this contest. She is still flattered daily by the support that so many have given to her.

McCalls Quilting Design Star {featuring Kathleen}

Our new issue of McCalls Quilting magazine arrived this week.

We were pretty excited to read this fun article about Kathleen and the McCalls Quilting Design Star Contest.

(Her pattern "For the Birds" will be featured in the July/August issue of McCalls Qulting) 

McCalls Quilting is hosting a Design Star Contest 2011!

Kathleen is doing a happy dance!

Last night was the big night! Kathleen, Whitnee and I headed down to Daves Bernina to pick up Kathleens' new Bernina Aurora 440QE that she won from the McCalls Quilt Design Star Challenge.

I'm pretty sure Kathleen was floating around the studio all day yesterday, she was so excited!

There she is! Isn't she a beautiful machine!

Now, she just needs to learn how to use all the fancy features. :)

My mom just called - she was crying....

My mom (Kathleen) works full time in a Dr.'s office. She just called me from work and she was crying. It actually made me start to cry. Then she whispered..... I WON! Oh my gosh! This is amazing. Everyone who participated in the contest made some AMAZING quilts and for her to win this contest means more than you can imagine to her. 

For the Birds was her final entry.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported her.  She really needs to start her own blog so she can thank each and everyone of you.

It's for the Birds

Last summer my mom (Kathleen) read about a design Challenge in McCalls Quilting magazine. 

She thought it sounded like a fun idea so she entered one of her original designs. Daisies and Lattice. 

She made it through the first round with that design and onto the second round.

In the second round she was given the challenge to make a quilt using only two different blocks. 

She designed, Bed of Tulips.

She made it through the second round with that design and was onto the third round.

In the third round she was given a stack of Robert Kauffman Batiks and given the challenge to design a quilt using a noticeable amount of each of the batiks.

She designed Merry Sunshine from those batiks. 

She made it through that round and onto the final challenge. The final challenge was to design and make a quilt that is inspired by her original entry. 

She was ecstatic with this challenge. 

She designed "It's for the Birds".

I think she did an awesome job in this contest. It's been fun to watch her create such beautiful quilts.
