Star Quilt {Arkansas Star} Month 6

**If you've been following along since the beginning this block was not in the original pattern. I have decided to switch a few of the blocks out so this quilt project stays at a beginner level.**

This month we are making the Arkansas Star.

You will need one background print and two star prints.
Cutting:
From background fabric 4 - 4 1/2"x4 1/2" squares.
From background fabric lay fabric on top of each other, 4 layers, two right side up and two wrong side up.
Cut 4 pieces 5 3/8"x2 5/8"
Cut those four pieces in half on the diagonal.
You will end up with 8 triangles, 4 for each side.
From your two prints cut two squares from each print 4 7/8"x4 7/8"
Press all four of those blocks in half.
Then cut them on the diagonal.
Also from your two prints cut one square from each print that is 5 1/4"x5 1/4".
Lay those two squares together right sides together, draw a diagonal line across and then stitch 1/4" on each side of the line.
Cut on the line after stitching.
After cutting you will have two squares that look like the one above.
Lay those two squares together, butting seams, right sides together, draw a diagonal line and stitch 1/4" on both sides.
Cut on the line after stitching.
Open and press.
You will have two blocks that look like this for the center.
You will only be using one of them for this block.
Now take those triangles that you cut before.
Stitch a background triangle onto each side.
You will end up with two blocks from each print that look like the one above.
Now sew the block together in three rows.
And there is your finished block!

All blocks in this quilt should be unfinished at 12 1/2"x 12 1/2"

Block of the Month {Twin Star} Month 5

**If you've been following along since the beginning this block was not in the original pattern. I have decided to switch a few of the blocks out so this quilt project stays at a beginner level.**
This month we are making the Twin Star.
From background fabric cut 4 - 4 1/2"x 4 1/2" squares.
From one of your two prints cut 1 - 4 1/2"x 4 1/2" square. This will be the center of your star.
From your background print and the print that is the same as the star center cut from each 1 - 5 1/4"x 5 1/4" square.
Cut both of the two 5 1/4" squares in quarters.
From your second print cut 2 - 4 7/8"x 4 7/8" squares.
Cut them both in half diagonally.
From your triangles that you cut in quarters sew them into four triangle sets, as shown above.
Sew the four triangle units to the four red triangles. You will have four units that look like the one above.
Sew the block together in three rows.
Press the seams as shown in the image above, top and bottom out and center block in.
Sew the three rows together and there you have your beautiful Twin Star.

All blocks in this quilt should be unfinished at 12 1/2"x 12 1/2"

Block of the Month {Star Variation} Month 4

This month we will be making the Star Variation.
Templates are needed for this block. Click here to download and print the templates.
When using the templates you will cut on the outer, lighter line. This will give you a perfect 1/4" seam allowance.
