Vintage Bracelets

Here is a sample of one of my most popular items, bracelets made from vintage material, and adorned with vintage buttons. They are adjustable to fit different wrist sizes, and super comfy! Each bracelet is lined with polka-dot material, because I firmly believe the world would be a happier place if we all wore more polka-dots!

Feedsack Top

Needed to make something agricultural themed for the agricultural art exhibit at Eastern Market on July 14th. Decided to make this top out of an old chicken feed feedsack that I had laying around. The words say, "FUL-O-PEP Egg Breeder Mash" then there is an image of what appears to me to be two roosters fighting! Maybe they are just a little too ful-o-pep! The back of the shirt shows the list of ingredients that went into this potent mash.

Not blogging enough - new start!

Why did I stop blogging! I told myself I was too busy and that was partly true, but guess what, the creative juices then started to grind to a halt!
Some quilting friends gathered recently to do visual diaries. I am including some photos of what we did. We have challenged ourselves to complete at least one page per day in the journals and meet again in a month. I have managed to do a few pages - I did 5 on one day, and then nothing for a couple of days etc - but I think I can average 7 a week without too much trouble.

We learned to look for the design possibilities all around us - these were Robyn's shoes on the floor. I loved the light and shade they made and this could become something....

The best thing about blogging and the visual diaries is that new ideas for quilts pop into your head - they really do! It is sort of a problem solving process which begins once you set your mind free to just play. I've got another idea from the lyrics of a song that just sticks in my head and won't go away - it's "I am a child", by Neil Young. I love that bit where it goes: "The sky's blue and so is the sea" - the images just explode in my head - more later!

Angry Girl

Sometimes things don't go as smoothly as one hopes that they will. Many failed attempts today just to get a picture loaded. Feely a bit like my little Angry Girl quilt.

The Magic Garden

This face is a small part of the wonderfulness found in Isaiah Zagar's The Magic Garden.
My oldest just graduated high school and to celebrate we took a trip to Philadelphia's South Street. Seeing and walking through The Magic Garden was so exciting! Breathtaking, headshaking, and truly deserving of it's name. If you haven't been, go. ( It only costs two bucks and the money goes to the preserving of, in my opinion, this national treasure.)

Derby tryouts today - wish me luck

Tryouts are tonight, and my body picked the PERFECT time to get a really bad flu. I was out Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and I spent almost the whole time sleeping and willing myself to get better. I'm still feeling very shaky and weak, and this upsets me. Steve is, naturally, insisting I not think like this because talking about it will make me give into it, and he's right. Still, I just wanted to write it down to see if I could get it out of my brain.

What I should be doing is thinking about how much time I spend at the gym, how I've been skating since I was a little kid, and how big and strong I am. After all the working out I've done over the past year, I can finally agree that yes, I am really strong. Hopefully the curls and the crunches and the squats and the cardio will help take care of the sniffles and the coughs and the aches and the pains. That, and I have decent skates with great wheels and excellent bearings. Hopefully these things will win out. Barring that, there's always next year.

St George Quilt Appraisals

It's about time I share an action shot (sort of) of me doing quilt appraisals. This is my booth at the Dixie Quilt Guild Show in St. George Utah in April 2007. You can see a bit of my quilt collection: Bethlehem star (Pa.) c.1900, small scale log cabin w/strippy back (Pa.) c. 1890, pink Goose in the Pond (Ohio) c. 1900 and red/white/blue quilt which will be discussed later. I had a great time and saw some nice quilts and visited with good friends--who could want more?

Quilting Sisters

Quilting Sisters Stitched Together with Love. Made for Hoffman Challenge 2003 and toured for year. Shown as special exhibit in Houston. Awarded 2006 Honorable mention at National Quilting Association NQA show. My sister (blonde) and I doing our favorite things: visiting and sewing. Hand applique and hand quilted. I had great fun picking out buttons, charms, scrap booking items, to embellish it. I used doll hair for our hair and my sister is wearing a necklace that she'd made mom about 35 years earlier- a perfect match.
